Silence in Laurel Grove Cemetery

Posted by in Laurel Grove Cemetery, Savannah | August 30, 2011

It has been way too long since I have posted a photograph on my blog. It has been way too long for many things. So, I guess I am back now.

This photograph is from the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Savannah Georgia. The specific monument is the Silence Monument located in the area of the cemetery dedicated to Confederate soliders from the Civil War. Its inscription talks about the men of Gettysburg, but actually only about 10% of the graves here are from Gettysburg casualties.

Next time you are in Savannah make sure you stop and check out the Laurel Grove Cemetery. It is very interesting and a number of prominent figures in history are buried there including Lafayette McLaws, a Gettysburg connection there..and Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts. The memorials in Laurel Grove range from the mundane to the elaborate. It is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Savannah Georgia.

My name is Tim Nealon and I am a photographer from Savannah Georgia.
