Sunset at Grand Oaks
Posted by Tim in HDR Photography, Landscape Photography, Savannah | March 15, 2012St. Patrick’s Day
So, this is my first St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah. I have heard many many stories about the festivities and from what I hear..this is going to be the largest St. Patrick’s Day celeberation in the world..ever…So, I want to be a part! I am currently auditioning people to be a member of my ‘crew’. If you have what it takes let me know! (Having what it takes me you don’t be an asshole..pretty much).
Sunset at Grand Oaks
I was out and about tonight photographing the sunset at the Grand Oaks. It turned out to be a pretty good sunset. I may not have my friend Scott Kublin’s track record of predicting good sunsets, but I am getting better. About 2 hours before the sunset I noticed the whispy clouds were increasing and the horizon was clear…it held up for the most part.
The Grand Oaks has some great landscaping and it was great to get out and snap some photos at sunset. I took many more tonight and I will be sure to put them up in the next few weeks or so..Maybe once Grand Oaks see how great my photography makes their places look they will hire me…(Hint, Hint)
Well, spring has arrived in Savannah. It doesn’t feel like it all of the time, with the blustery winds, but spring is here. While walking around Savannah’s Squares you may notice that flowers are in bloom…and if you have allergies I am quite certain you are well aware of the pollen floating everywhere, coating everything.
This particular scene can be found at the North end of Forsyth Park. There is a tree which many MANY people have carved into over the years. It is pretty interesting to get close and check out what people have had to say over the years. Usually it is something like JK + AN surrounding by the boundaries of a heart. Makes me wanna puke…
Anyways, it just goes to show that there is soo much to find in Savannah if you are willing to look beyond the touristy areas and get off of the beaten path. And with spring in the air, there isn’t a better time.
The Bell Tower at the First African Baptist Church
Posted by Tim in Franklin Square, HDR Photography, Savannah | March 01, 2012Photographing in the First African Baptist Church
The First African Baptist Church, on Franklin Square in Savannah Georgia, is a church rich in history and stories about the residents who worshiped in the walls of this church. In the front of the First African Baptist Church is a bell tower going up two or three stories. What you see below is the bell that is in that bell tower. If you want to see the view of the interior of the church just follow this link: First African Baptist Church in Savannah.
When I was photographing inside of the First African Baptist Church I simply followed simple hand-made ladders up a few stories until I arrived at the top floor. You could tell that it has been some time since someone else was at the top of the bell tower. The dust was thick and evey where. To be honest, I don’t even know if I was supposed to be up there, but no harm no foul, right?
I encourage you to visit the First African Baptist Church on Franklin Square during your next visit to Savannah.
Sunset at Harbour Town
Posted by Tim in Harbour Town, HDR Photography, Hilton Head, Landscape Photography | March 01, 2012Photographing at Harbour Town near Hilton Head
Way back in mid-January my friend Scott and I headed up to Hilton Head South Carolina to take some photographs at Harbour Town, a neat little community not too far from Savannah. There was an interesting lighthouse in Harbour Town which we both photographed pretty heavily. This is the only photograph of the sunset I will be posting though. I just couldn’t get many compostions I like. I don’t know if I was in a funk or what, but…blah. I enjoy this photograph, the clouds seem to mimic the piece of land, falling away from it.
The Oglethorpe Statue in Savannah at Sunrise
Posted by Tim in Chippewa Square, HDR Photography, Savannah | March 01, 2012The Oglethorpe Statue in Chippewa Square
So, I have been putting out a number of sunrise photographs in Savannah as of late. That is for two reasons. One, I like them and this is my blog : ) and two, I have been very busy with work, personal issues etc..and haven’t had a lot of time to get out and take new photographs..anyways.
In Chippewa Square stands General Oglethorpe, in all of his bronze glory. He has never looked better. I am just guessing of course…A few weeks prior to this photograph I was in Chippewa Square at sunrise but I didn’t get the Square from this angle. I don’t know why I didn’t see it right away, I mean, the composition is great and nearly symmetrical. It just goes to show that you should go back to the same area over and over to get the best photographs. Not only will the lighting and mood change each time you go back but you may also see things in a new light. The direction, a new angle you didn’t see before…even the best of us don’t figure out the best photo of an area the first time, every time.
