Georgia Shrimp Festival – Jekyll Island Georgia

Posted by in Jekyll Island | September 20, 2011

So, I had the chance to head down to Jekyll Island for the Jekyll Island Wild Georgia Shrimp Festival. It was an interesting experience, and a good one. Shrimp and Grits were the food of the day and we tried a few different restaurants version of this southern classic. They were all excellent!

In addition to the shrimp, there were many craft vendors at the Festival. I grabbed this photo of a booth that had a lot of painted artwork. It was very cool and if I had a better idea of what I plan on doing with the interior of my home I would have picked up a piece or two..

The Fountain in Forsyth Park, Forsyth Fountain

Forsyth Fountain is a beautiful and pretty famous landmark in Savannah Georgia. At the north end of Forsyth Park, the fountain was built in the 1850′s. The detail in the fountain is something to admire and respect. If you get a chance to visit Savannah, make sure you make it to Forsyth Park. It is a great place.

I visited Forsyth Park later in the afternoon and found it to be a pretty popular place with not only tourists but the locals as well. People were sitting on the benches or the ground reading or just relaxing. Joggers and people walking their dogs were there in abundance. Taking a clean photograph of the entire fountain took a lot of patience, which I am not usually known for.

The Pier on Tybee Beach, Tybee Island Georgia

If you caught my post the other day about Bahia Honda you will remember me saying that I am heading back to the Keys here in a few weeks. No trip down south would be complete without a stop over in Savannah and Tybee Island. Savannah was one of my favorite cities to visit in the past few years, if not my favorite. With Tybee Island and the beautiful beach they have just 15 minutes east of the city, it is a very good combination.

This is the pier on Tybee Beach. I know I have put a few other photos up of the pier but this is my blog so I will do what I want, ha. Plus, the colors in the picture really grab my attention. This was a sunrise back in November. I love being on Tybee Beach watching the sun rise from the east over the Atlantic.

Next time you are down in Savannah taking in all of the sights, don’t forget to take the trip out to Tybee Island.

A New Day over Tybee Island

I have said it before, Tybee Island, just east of Savannah, is a great place to photograph awesome sunrises. The sun coming up over the Atlantic, along with the great atmosphere that Tybee Island provides combines for a wonderful experience not to be missed.

This photograph was taken back in November on my way down to the Keys. Sunrise was approaching and as a photographer, you just have to find a great place to take some shots. We were near Savannah, so it was only natural that I returned to Tybee Island.

Sunrise is an almost spiritual experience for me anymore. Especially when enjoying it from somewhere like Tybee. Sunrise symbolizes soo much, but to me, a new beginning. Right now in my life I have a wonderful chance that I am soo thankful for, a new beginning. The way that hope and joy and thoughts of good memories, all combined with the new day, the new beginning, it truly a wonderful thing. When life gives you a second chance, a new beginning, take full advantage of it and put everything you are into it….that is what I am trying my best to do…

For more information on Tybee Island, visit their website, Tybee Island Information. If you are looking for a place to stay on Tybee Island, check out Mermaid Cottages. I have not personally stayed at one of their cottages, (that will change this spring), but I have heard nothing but great things about their operation. The same goes for the Lighthouse Inn, check out their website too.
