The General Warren Monument in Gettysburg
Posted by Tim in Gettysburg,HDR Photography | April 14, 2011Well, Americans everywhere should be very happy today as the news of the Casino in Gettysburg was handed out. There will be no Casino in Gettysburg, much to the delight of anyone with a conscience anywhere.
This photograph was made the other day when I went to Gettysburg with my friend Courtney. I hope I did not bore her too much, ha. If you have been to Gettysburg before you will surely recognize this monument as the General Warren Monument on Little Round Top. I dare say it is probably the most photographed monument on the battlefield, which makes it that much more difficult to come up with something original. It was a great day as I was able to get a number of photographs that I have been thinking of in my mind for months.
With summer fast approaching (but not fast enough) I have many ideas for this summer which I hope to share with all of you. Hopefully a few of us can meet up and explore the battlefield with our cameras together.

The Excelsior Brigade Monument at Gettysburg
Posted by Tim in Black and White,Gettysburg | February 15, 2011Today I am posting a photograph of the Excelsior Monument at Gettysburg. dedicated to the 70th, 71st, 72nd, 73rd & 74th New York Infantry Regiments, the Excelsior Monument is located on Sickles Avenue. The Excelsior Monument is probably one of the more popular of the smaller monuments at Gettysburg. I know I have seen a ton of photographs of it and there are always a number of people photographing it.
This photograph is a combination of my two favorite styles, HDR and Black & White. Yes, it is a High Dynamic Range photograph which was converted into Black and White using Lightroom or Photoshop or whatever it was that I used. I decided to go for an IR look just a bit, I really like it and may try it again if the need arises.

The Mississippi Monument in Gettysburg
Posted by Tim in Gettysburg,HDR Photography | January 20, 2011Oh Gettysburg, how much I miss you. For someone who visited Gettysburg about 40 times in 2009, it was hard to not make it as many times this year….about 5. However, I tried to make the most of it by getting some good photos while I was there. I didn’t even go at all during this past fall. Every time I thought about going the thought of not having my travel partner, ha, with me was too depressing to deal with.
The Mississippi Monument, on Confederate Avenue is one of the more interesting monuments on Gettysburg Battlefield, in my opinion. The grit and desperation of the battle really shines through on the Mississippi Monument.
This photograph of the Mississippi Monument is an HDR photograph, big surprise there, right? 7 exposures, nothing special in the processing, just some Photomatix and Photoshop.

The Peace Monument in Gettysburg | HDR Photography
Posted by Tim in Gettysburg,HDR Photography | September 23, 2010Today’s post is going to be short and sweet. I am sitting here with way too much on my mind to write some crap that most of you are not going to read anyways, haha. I hope you enjoy this photograph, the sunset was beautiful this evening.

Sunset over McPherson’s Ridge in Gettysburg
Posted by Tim in Gettysburg,HDR Photography | July 26, 2010Here is another photo from the other day in Gettysburg. My friend Jason and I spent the afternoon there taking photos and such.
This photograph of Gettysburg is off McPherson’s Ridge. Standing in the low ground between McPherson’s Ridge and Seminary Ridge looking east always makes for a great sunset photograph. You can see the monuments to General Reynolds and Buford a long with the monument to Hall’s Battery.
Sunset shots like this can always be a little tricky. Many times you will end up with the silhouettes and little detail in the foreground but the sunset will be in its full glory. This is one way in which HDR photography excels. The bracketed exposures allow you to capture all of the foreground detail as well. As fas as HDR goes, this photograph leans towards a more realistic view. More and more I find myself trying to use HDR as a way to capture what my eye sees, not some artsy surreal effect. I mean, I used to let my HDR’s drift off towards surreal, but I just don’t like it was much anymore. Eh, just me.
This photograph is over on Pictures of Gettysburg too. If you are looking for a cool present for your favorite Civil War buff why not purchase print for them? Okay, shameless sales pitch = done. Haha. You can find this print at: McPherson’s Ridge Print.
