Photographing the Kehoe House in Savannah
If you are in the area of Columbia Square, make sure to check out the Kehoe House. The Kehoe House has to be one of the most beautiful homes in Savannah. Every time I go by, I cannot help but to take a photograph or two.I have never been inside to take photos, but would love to. Much like the other homes in Savannah, it probably wouldn’t suit me well to just bust on it and start taking photographs, haha…
The Kehoe House is currently a Bed and Breakfast. It always ranks highly in terms of the service they provide. Check them out the next time you are in Savannah. I also hear rumors that the Kehoe House might be haunted…like every other building in Savannah, right? Haha…
The Benches in Columbia Square
Posted by Tim in Black and White,Columbia Square,Savannah | December 5, 2011Columbia Square is one of my favorite Squares in Savannah. Most times of the day Columbia Square is very peaceful and relatively quiet. Sitting on the Square are two of the more well-known homes in Savannah, the Kehoe House and the Davenport House. If you are out and about in Savannah and need a place to just relax, away from the crowds of Johnson or Ellis Square, give Columbia Square a shot. Maybe you will agree with me and add it to you favorite list.
Surrounding the Wormsloe Fountain, in the center of Columbia Squares and park benches. Nothing special about the benches, but they do make interesting subjects for photographs. The photograph below is of two park benches on the north side of the Square. You can see the Davenport House in the background on the left of the photograph. As far as processing, this isn’t my normal treatment. I don’t put many black and white photos of Savannah up. I too this one even further and tried to give it an older feel without trying to throw one of those over-used Instagram type filters on it.

The Kehoe and Davenport Homes in Savannah
Located on Columbia Square, in Savannah Georgia, are two of my favorite homes in Savannah. The Kehoe House and Davenport House sit diagonal from each other on Habersham Street in the historic district of Savannah.
I have photographed the Kehoe House (on the left) probably more than any other home in Savannah. It is a great home to photograph at sunset. The sun sets behind the house and just to the left, making for some dramatic photographs. The Kehoe House was completed in 1892 for William Kehoe, an Irish immigrant. When the house was completed William and his family moved into the home. I think I read somewhere that him and his wife Anne had something like…10 kids?! I guess that was much more common place back then. Now-a-days only people living off of welfare their whole life have 10 kids. An interesting bit-o-knowledge about the Kehoe house…for a period of time, the house was actually owned by Joe Namath, of football fame.
The Davenport House (on the right) is credited with helping start the preservation movement in Savannah. When threatened with demolition, a group of native Savannahians came together and raised the money needed to purchase the Davenport House. This was the first home saved by the Historic Savannah Foundation. They have gone on to save hundreds of buildings from destruction. The Davenport House was built in 1820. It is considered one of the best examples of Federal style architecture in the country.

The Fountain at Columbia Square
Last night I was spent walking around the east side of the Historic District, specifically the block or two surrounding Columbia Square. Columbia Square is sometimes overlooked, with many tourists visiting the Squares on the west-side, such as Johnson and Monterey, but Columbia is probably my favorite Square. Usually nice and quiet, it is a great place to relax and take in the beautiful architecture that surrounds the Square. One of the most important houses in Savannah, the Davenport House, is located on Columbia Square. This is the house that is credited with helping to spark the revival of the historic homes and buildings in Savannah.
This fountain, located in the center of Columbia Square, was originally found at Wormsloe Plantation. When the historic preservation movement was under way Eudora and Wainwright Roebling brought this fountain from Wormsloe to help in their efforts to renovate the square.

My name is Timothy Nealon and I am a wedding photographer from Savannah Georgia.
